Hi everyone,
Firstly let me introduce myself, my name is Peter or more commonly known as PJ and here is some background information about me,
For some 37 years I have been employed as an Air Traffic Controller with most of that time being in South Australia. For the last 15 years I have worked in the Control Tower at Adelaide Airport which has approximately 300,000 aircraft movements a year. By the time I arrive in NZ I will have retired and hopefully will have removed some of the residue of all that shift work.
My involvement with dogs came about after purchasing my first dog, a Doberman named Baron. The breeder suggested that it would ‘a good idea’ for the dog and me to do some obedience. Not long after starting my training at the South Australian Obedience Dog Club in 1979 I was asked if I would Instruct. I did so for about 16 years as well as being on the Committee and twice being the Chief Instructor. The judging ‘bug’ bit me and by 1987 I was a ‘Full’ Panel Obedience Judge. In about 1989 the sport of Agility began and as there were no judges, the Australian National Kennel Control allowed Obedience judges on application and some training to become Agility judges. Since then I have judged at four Nationals, Adelaide (2001 and 2007), ACT (2004), and WA (2005).
I have been a member of the South Australian Canine Association Council (the Governing body for dogs in SA) since 2002. I have been involved in the management side of Agility in SA since the late 90’s. I became the Chair of the Agility Advisory Committee (responsible for the management of Agility in SA) in 2003. Australia upgrades their Agility/Jumping/Games rules every 5 years and this occurred during 2005 and my role was the chief SA representative.
I am hopeful in the future that competitions between our two countries can become a regular event. It is also a goal that we develop similar rules so that Trans Tasman competitions will be more attractive. I am quite sure that Lyn and the NZ ‘crew’ have told of the fun and enjoyment they had in Australia. None of the competitors seemed to have any difficulty in adjusting to our rules in Agility, Jumping or Games. By the way they were a credit to NZ Agility even if only a ‘little’ crazy.
I look forward to judging in NZ and to meet many of you and also see firsthand the standard of Agility in NZ.
Thank you
Peter J Dynan (pj)
