Hi everyone,
I have always been a dog lover but I had never seen agility until Daryl Hogg and Sarah Mackenzie came around my basic obedience class looking for people interested in learning agility. The first dog I tried to train didn’t like agility and never competed but it did give me the bug and I trained Jacki, (a mini-sized soft-coated wheaten cross). Our first competitive run achieved a ribbon and I became an addict.
I have since trained and competed with a variety of dogs with varying degrees of success. I have qualified three dogs to senior level, Mac, Blue and Gypsy. I am currently competing with four dogs across three heights and four classes. They are part of a pack of seven, retired Jacki and two still too young to compete. One advantage of running a range of dogs is that at least one will normally have a good day provided I manage to give them the correct directions.
We travel to over 20 shows a year, covering over 10,000 kilometres a year with my motorhome and dog trailer.
Agility for me is my reason for going to work. The enjoyment I get from agility is the reason I put in the effort to train and exercise my dogs and it is obvious that they enjoy agility as well. It’s great to be a part of a sport that the dogs can enjoy as much as we do.
