Sue Smithson

In England in the early 1970s Sue purchased her first dog, a Golden Labrador. Honey enjoyed the social aspects of Obedience Classes much more than the training, and made sure that their first attempt at competition was such an embarrassment that no repeat was considered.

In New Zealand in 1978 Sue took a Sheltie puppy into her heart and home. Things went better this time and Sherrie became an Obedience Champion in 1982. Sue then trained and competed with two more Shelties and a German Shepherd. She now has a Sheltie, Bridie, who is more pet than competition dog.

Sue is a Life Member of the Wanganui Dog Obedience Club, having spent more than 20 years on their committee, including two spells as President. Sue is currently the Patron of that club. She served as Zone 3 Obedience Representative and was chairperson of the organising committee for the 1993 NDOA in Wanganui.

Sue began judging in 1982 and has been on the Test C panel since 1986, finding it a great way to see the country and enjoy life. She has twice judged at the National Dog Show and many times at NDOA / NTDAs. She is an enthusiastic supporter of the Obedience Judges’ Association and helps up and coming judges and stewards in any way she can.
